I’ve been behind the chair for almost a decade and this week I’m doing something I think more stylists should do. I’m showing you exactly what an extension appointment with me looks like and what it costs. No vague “starting at” pricing. The real numbers.

The Transformation

The Cost Breakdown

Hair extensions: $670

This is the pricing of the hair we decided was the best fit for her. Extensions are an investment and the quality of hair matters. I work with multiple different brands that offer different textures, lengths, colors and price points. Because if you remember from a previous blog of mine.. TEXTURE is everything. This is what you’re wearing on your head every single day, so, this is not where you want to cut corners.

Transformation Color: $260

This wasn’t a single process color. This included multiple foiling techniques and different toner formulations to get the exact result we wanted. At Moss, I have a few different levels of custom color appointments on my menu. A mini, partial, full, and transformation color. Transformation is my highest tier and it’s for clients who need a TON of foils or multiple techniques in one session to achieve their goal. That’s what this client needed.

3 Row Install: $270

The install itself plus a blending haircut, blowdry, and style. The haircut is essential because your natural hair has to blend seamlessly with the extensions or it’s going to look like you’re wearing extensions aaannnd that’s NOT what we want.

If you’re a new client, I always prefer to start with a consultation. Not because I’m trying to add an extra step but because I want to get it right the first time. A consultation lets us sit down, talk through your hair goals, look at what we’re working with, finalize a plan with real cost estimates, and order your extensions so everything is ready to go when you come in for your actual appointment.

To be honest, the salon pricing topic is crazy right now because clients don’t realize that we all charge different, and it’s NOT based on skill or experience. I don’t want anyone sitting down in a salon chair without knowing what they’re walking into financially. Extensions are an investment, and they should feel like one you made intentionally, not one that caught you off guard. You should be shopping around, aka, consulting with multiple stylists to find the best hairstylist for YOU.
